Average Rank: 4.7 out of 5 from 1981 reviewers

The Stanley is the perfect kit for long camping or boating trip with family. This set has everything you need to prepare food for a regiment. It comprises a drying rack, plates, bowls, cookware, utensils, and stores neatly in a convenient little kit with a bungee cord.

The part of the kit that will blow you away is the spatula and cooking spoon – they come in two-piece and break down for storing.

Storing this set has never been so easier with the instructions engraved in the lid. The pot and frying pans that come with the set are made of 18/8 stainless steel, which is highly durable and easy to clean. Only the plates, bowls, and utensils are plastic but very easy to clean too.

The pot and skillet have a slick and thick bottom. However, some users found that the frying pan bottom is thicker than the pot. The lid fits both the pan and pot. Just know that the cover has drain holes on one side that act as a drainer. That’s great for cooking stewed vegetables and stuff like this, but it may not be the ideal cookware if you plan to cook rice.

The big pot has rounded, slick handles that are easy to grab, and the frying pan has a folding-out handle. Those handles are metal and become hot on the stove, so make sure to use gloves when you cook to avoid burning yourself.

Overall, the Stanley is a great set that will allow you to make some solid meals for the whole family. It’s durable, easy to clean, and it’s stainless steel. Users really love this set, but some found the plates too small and wished they came a little larger.

5.Tefal Ingenio Pan Set, Stainless Steel, 13-Piece

Average Rank: 4.6 out of 5 from 1442 reviewers

This is another excellent set of Tefal Ingenio that made many buyers happy. It’s a beautiful mirror-polished set that you can get straight from the oven to the table and use as serving dishes for your guests. There are many good things to say about this set, but one of the coolest features is its Ingenio airtight plastic lids. It’s very convenient as it allows you to store leftover food in the fridge or cover the pans to protect your food from flies.

The handles are made of Bakelite, a thermosetting polymer material designed to resist high heat. However, even though they withstand heat incredibly well, I would suggest you remove the handle when you leave your frying pan on the hob; otherwise, it may overheat and burn your hand.

Also, those handles are extremely sturdy and can hold up to 10 kg as they are reinforced with three fixation points.

Plus, they feature two side buttons to secure and detach and convert your frying pans into oven dishes. But, be aware that those handles can’t go in the dishwasher or be submerged. This is because they have mechanical parts inside. So, you can only clean them with a rag.

The frying pans have a Titanium nonstick interior that is easy to clean and a built-in iconic Thermo-Spot that lets you know when your food reaches the ideal temperature.

The pots and frying pans suit all types of hob, even Induction. The saucepans have internal measuring marks, which make cooking so much easier. The only downside with the saucepans is that they aren’t coated and thus don’t withstand high heat, which is clearly stated in the instruction. But all in all, Excellent rating on Amazon, excellent set for cooking. If this is what you are after, Go for it!

  • Induction compatible
  • Easy to clean
  • Nest neatly into itself
  • Sturdy Bakelite handles
  • Oven and dishwasher friendly ( expect the handles)

  • One user found the set useless because Tefal suggests not to submerge the handles in the water.

Also, those pans stack easily into one another, so if you want to free up some shelf and drawer space, this Ingenio Elegance set will allow you to do so with ease. These are made of Aluminium and coated with an Intensium nonstick agent, making them resistant and durable.

However, the Tefal company says there is no problem using metal utensils with those pans, except knives and whisks, though I wouldn’t dare take this risk if I were you.

Since they are nonstick, cleaning is a real breeze, and not to mention, they are dishwasher safe. Another cool thing about this set is its built-in thermo-spot technology. This feature lets you know when the pan reaches its optimal cooking temperature when you cook.

As I mentioned above, they are super versatile as they suit all hobs, except Induction, and you can move food from stove to oven in the same pan without any issue.

The entire pan is stainless steel that withstands hard use and has a brushed finish, providing a nice bright look. In other words, the perfect piece of cookware for the outdoor.

The center of this pan is deep, providing a ton of cooking area, and you can cook whatever you want with it, fish, fajitas, meat, tacos, rice, and you name it. However, as I mentioned above, it’s a big pan, and the bottom isn’t flat, so it won’t be a good idea to use it on a glass countertop stove.

The inside of the pans and pots are coated with Whitford coating, which is a silicone polyester agent that is highly resistant to corrosion and high temperature, making it ideal for outdoor use.

Boat Cookware Buying Guide

Before choosing a cookware set, it would be preferable to know what to look for this way you maximize your chance to take the right set. So here is a little buying guide for you.

Stainless steel

Pure stainless steel is highly corrosion resistant and durable, but the problem is that it doesn’t conduct heat well, thus tends to cook food unevenly and scorch it. Stainless steel cookware that contains aluminum or copper cores in the bottom and interior of the pan gives a much better result. Some stainless steel cookware sets even have both aluminum and copper core in the base, offering maximum heat dispersion. It’s by far the best option. With such solid construction, you’ll be able to cook your food more evenly and for a longer time. In addition, stainless steel is toxic-free and ideal for sauteing, boiling, baking.

Grade of stainless steel

The grade of the stainless steel is crucial because this is what determines the quality of the product. So when you look for stainless steel cookware, make sure it has either 18-0 or 18-8 or 18-10 mirror polish marine grade stainless steel. The first number indicates the percentage of Chromium and the second of the Nickel. The higher the percentage of Chromium and Nickel, the more your cookware set will be durable and corrosion-resistant.

Ply – Layer

Ply is simply a layer of material combined with other layers to strengthen the product. It could be anything, textile, PVC, etc., but as you can guess, the main material used for cookware is metal. Therefore, 3-ply and 5-ply are the most common terms used to indicate the number of metal layers for the construction of the pan.

3-ply, also called All-Clad D3, is one of the most popular stainless steel cookware sets. It consists of an 18/10 stainless steel outer layer joined to an aluminum core layer. The last layer is anodized aluminum, which increases heat distribution capacity and durability.

  • More affordable than the 5-Ply
  • Lighter thane the 5-Ply
  • Easier to carry

  • Not as durable as the 5-Ply
  • More vulnerable to scratches and dents
  • More prone to uneven heating

5 Ply, known as D5, has five layers of metal; an 18/10 stainless steel interior, a layer of aluminum, a steel core on top, another layer of aluminum, and an 18/0 stainless steel exterior.

  • Cook more evenly than 3 – Ply
  • Heats up more quickly than 3 – Ply
  • More resistant to distortion and scratches than 3-Ply

  • Usually more expensive
  • Heavier

Which Ply to choose?

Of course, the D-5 is hand down the best, but you can certainly get away with the D-3 if you are not too meticulous about getting the perfect texture and don’t want to spend a fortune on a cookware set.

As mentioned several times, space in a boat galley and an RV car is very limited. Thus you need to save as much space as possible.

Look for practical cookware set with removable handles that can nest into one another. Also, a storage carrying bag like the one shown in the article ( Magma)is convenient as it protects your set from shocks dust and prevents it from bouncing around and scratching. If you don’t use a storage bag, use an elastic bungee cord as an alternative. If it’s not included in the set, you can buy it separately.

Cooking hobs

There is nothing better than versatile cookware that suits all hobs. However, to avoid any unpleasant surprise, always read what’s written on the info of the cookware set. Some materials like Aluminium or score alone won’t work on Induction; on the other hand, they will work perfectly on gas. So make sure the pans are compatible with the type of stove you’ll use.

Oven safe

Some cookware sets have a high level of heat resistance, while others have less. So when choosing your set, it’s super important to check the amount of degree the set can withstands. Anyway, It should be written on the instructions for the item.

Another thing to consider is the handles. Wood and plastic are not oven friendly; you know what will happen if you put them in the oven.

 Dishmachine safe

Materials like Aluminium, cast iron, copper, and nonstick coating can’t go in the dishwasher. The water’s heat, detergent, and pressure will damage the coating over time and cause discoloration.

However, in general, stainless steel, ceramic, and glass cookware sets are dishwasher-friendly. In any case, make sure it’s stated that the set is dishwasher safe. Detachable handles aren’t dishwasher safe either because they have electronic parts inside. So it’s preferable to clean them with a wet rag.

Handles come in different materials, shapes, and lengths. However, the handles need to be safe, comfortable to grab, and practical for storage.

Try to choose a cookware set with detachable handles to facilitate storage between use. Handles with two side push buttons or a latch on the top are easier to use and allow to hold more weight. This also helps detach and attach the handle quickly and maximizes stability while carrying the pan.

Another thing to consider is the material. Know that wood and plastic are bad heat conductors, contrary to metal. As I said above, it wouldn’t be a good idea to use wood or plastic in the oven. It will burn or melt. What I mean is that metal gets hotter, that’s all.

However, if you plan to leave the whole pan with the handles in the oven, you better stick to stainless steel, Bakelite, or silicone. Those materials resist high temperatures and won’t likely melt or deform unless they exceed the degree of heat the material can withstand.

Although there is no ideal handle for everyone, the length plays an important role in determining the comfort of the handles. For example, very long handles might not fit the oven well and maybe harder to use, especially for people with carpal tunnel or arthritis. But they are ideal for use in an open fire. On the other hand, short handles can easily be tucked away or hung up and fit perfectly in the oven. The downside of short handles is that the more it gets closer to the pot, the hotter it gets.

There are rounded and flat handles, and again, there is no best shape. It all depends on your preferences. Some people will prefer a flat handle over a rounded one, while others the opposite.

Lids (Stainless Steel – Shatterproof Glass)

There are various types of lid materials, but the most recommended are stainless steel and glass lids. Although both are great, each has plusses and minuses. Let’s see what they are.

Stainless steel lids

  • Withstand high heat and have a high melting point
  • Lighter than glass
  • Not breakable
  • Easier to clean
  • Flatter than glass, therefore easier to store

  • You can’t see through; thus, you must open the lid to see the cooking food.
  • Tend to shift slightly when the steam pressure grows because of its lightness, and as a result, the steam escape.

Shattered Glass Lids

  • Allow you to see through, preventing you from opening the lid.
  • If it falls, the glass shatter but doesn’t break.
  • Many glass lids have a built-in vent to allow steam escape, which could be a plus or a con depending on the type of cooking.
  • Better for simmering

  • Harder to clean
  • Can shatter and become useless.
  • Tend to retain food particles.

As a proverb says, the simpler, the better, but when it comes to cookware, it’s not always true. You want your cookware to have great features to simplify your life.

Here are some features you want to look for when choosing a cookware set for boating or camping.

Thermo-spot technology

The Thermo-Spot is a heat indicator built into the pan’s nonstick coating to let you know when the food reaches the ideal temperature. This is very helpful as it prevents you from worrying about overcooking your food.

Measuring marks

Volume marking on pans will make your life so much easier. There is no need to measure your food, saving you time and nerves. So if you can, buy pans that come with this feature.

Bungee cord

A bungee cord will always come in handy, no matter where you go. You can use it to secure almost anything you want. So it’s an excellent feature to have, especially when camping or boating. However, with a bungee cord, you can rest assured your cookware set won’t bounce around, scratch, or make noise. Plus, it helps reduce wasted space in your cupboard.

Strainer holes Lid

This is useful if you want to strain pasta and vegetables with ease. Another advantage of this feature is that you don’t have to bring a drainer which saves you space. The downside? It takes more time for the water to boil, and it’s not ideal for cooking rice because the heat escapes through the holes.

Storage Bag

If your set stays in the cupboard, a storage bag won’t be of good use. But if you plan to carry it from one place to another, you’ll need it. There are many types of cookware storage bags, but what’s important is that it’s well padded to protect the set from shocks, ventilated to avoid moisture, and equipped with pockets for storing small things. It’s also important that the bag’s outer material is water-resistant so that your set stays dry and safe.

Final Word

Here we are, these are the best cookware sets you can find on the market, and with the help of the buying above, you should be all set for your next boating trip. The only thing left for you to do is start cooking delicious meals in your Galley.

  3. Hello,

This is a great article about the best cookware for boats. I don’t have a boat but I do have an RV. After reading your article, my question was if the cookware can be bused at home but you have already answered that in one of the replies to the comments.

I found your article very helpful. Trying to have complete cookware set in a small setting such as RV is not easy. With your suggestions and very comprehensive pros and cons sections, I will be able to do that in no time.

Thank you very much for doing the research and sharing with us your expertise.

    • Hi Anna,

Sure these cookware suit for both boats and RVs galley, and of course, you’ll be able to save a lot of space in your kitchen at home too:)

If you have any questions, please let me know; I’ll be more than happy to help.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a lovely day.

  4. I always liked to have cookware with glass lids. Makes cooking so much easier. I got my first glass lid cookware set a few years back and since then I cannot cook without such one. And obviously Tefal is one of the most recognized brands in the market and a guarantee of good quality.

    • Hi Stratos

You are right, glass lids make life so much easier, and of course, Tefal is a reliable brand that creates awesome pans:) I am a fan of them too:)

If you have any questions, please let me know. I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a lovely day.

  5. I do a lot of traveling.  I go coast to coast quite often.  I have many food sensitivities, so I always have to prepare my own food.  Finding cookware that travels well is extremely difficult.  I am getting ready to go on a cruise, so the information and reviews on your website are of great benefit.  The stainless steel nesting pots and pans are what I have been looking for!  I can’t use aluminum cookware so this is perfect.  Thanks for all the tips.. I can now travel and cook with room to spare.

    • Hi there,

I am so glad you found your cookware set for your next trip. I am sure you’ll love it as it’s super practical.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I am always happy to help.

Thank you for the comment and I wish you a great day.

  6. On a boat, space is a luxury. So, being able to find cookware that saves us space is commendable. I think I will buy the Stanley Adventure Stay Hot 3QT camp crock. I need something that is Leakproof. And above all, I need to be able to conserve the temperature to my meals for hours.

How can we strengthen latches so they do not break?

    • Hi Paolo.

Yes, as you said,  it’s a luxury to have space on a boat:) Great choice. The Stanley Adventure insulated stainless vacuum pot will save you a lot of time. Sorry, I don’t know if there is a way to strengthen the latches of the pot. This is something you’ll have to ask the company.

I hope I’ll be able to give you better info next time:)

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a lovely day.

  7. This is a great subject to explore that we all probably take for granted.  In addition to not taking up space, I would think that weight is also important as you don’t want it airborne in rough weather.  I’m partial to the Stanley Adventure Stay Hot covered unit as long as they get their latch issues fixed..  As far as all around value the 21-piece set for $81 is the best buy for my value.  I just don’t know how long it would stand up to constant use and rough conditions.  I feel Jamie Oliver’s set, like most celebrity cookware, is a little overpriced.  Thanks for the info.  Warren

    • Hi Warren,

I am glad you found this article valuable. Yes, these sets all have pluses and minuses, but I am sure you’ll find cookware that suits your needs for your next trip on the water.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I’ll be more than happy to help.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a great day.

I am not conversant with boat kitchens but I believe these amazing utensils will also be good for family kitchens. I will check out their prices, compare and make my choice.
    Thanks for sharing.

  9. Thank you for sharing this great reviews I really love the Magma Products Gourmet Nesting SS Cookware Set specially having that many reviews.

My question is, we planning a trip to Yosemite national park this summer, do you think this magma set will a great choice for picnic use?

Hopefully you can give me a advice before I make my purchase.

Thank you and God Bless you

    • Hi there,

Sure, the Magma is specially designed for the outdoor. I am sure you’ll have a tone of use out of it not only in Yosemite national park but also at sea and in your kitchen:). As I mentioned in the article, it’s rust-resistant and super durable. With the Magma, you can’t go wrong.

I hope it helped, and if you have more questions. Don’t hesitate to ask; I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a great trip.

  10. Thank you Daniella, quite a selection you showcased here.

I never imagined having to cook onboard, let alone, where and how to store your pots and pans. For an uninformed like myself, your shopping guide is a real bonus.

One question that did come to mind was whether or not the detachable handles would be available separately should one encounter a problem with the mechanical parts within?

    • Hi Johan,

I am glad you found the article useful. Generally, manufacturers sell handles of cookware sets separately. So I don’t think it would be a problem for you to get some if needed. Just make sure the company you bought the set from sells handles separately:)

I hope it helped, and if you need to know more info, I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a lovely.

  11. With limited space on a boat, you certainly want to have space saving cookware that doesn’t start rusting or gets knocked about when you hit some rough waves. So a nesting set would be my first choice in terms of saving space.

I’ve been using 18/10 stainless steel cookware at home since I bought my first set after leaving university, so that is always my first choice. It is easy to clean and doesn’t rust. And I love Jamie Oliver products because of its quality and durablity. So that would be my first choice here.

Thank you for a great selection and choice for cookware that can be used on a boat, but also on dry land.

    • Hi Line,

Yes, Jamie Oliver makes beautiful and durable cookware sets. I use them too in my kitchen and when I go camping and boating. The Magma is also excellent:)

I a glad you found the list of cookware sets useful.

Thank you for the comment and I wish you a great day.

  12. Your article on cooking equipment for the specialized situation of being on a boat is very informative.  With limited space for storage, the nesting sets seem to be the best option.  Weight is another factor for sure.  Personally, I appreciated the overview of the parts of the equipment.  We are not as interested in a lid that is see through as one that is light, interchangeable and durable.  An interchangeable handle makes sense for storage.  We spend a great deal of time in a small RV with an adequate small kitchen with limited storage.  I think that the Stanley Base Camp Cook set is an amazing solution for us.  Thanks for this information.  I am bookmarking the site so my wife can take a look at the information.

    • Hi there,

Yes, I agree that nesting sets save so much space in the galley, and removable handles are convenient—most of the cookware sets listed in the article suit ideally RV kitchens.

The Stanley base Camp is exceptionally versatile. This is a set you can use almost anywhere. Great choice. I am sure you’ll make a tone of use out of it.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know. I am always happy to help.

Thank you for having bookmarked my site and the comment.

I wish you a fantastic day.

  13. Excellent article with very detailed material. Is the cookware that you described here intended for use at sea or at home too? I mean maybe my question might seem silly but I’m just curious. Maybe their price is different precisely because they are intended for use in marine conditions? BTW, I checked the prices on Amazon and was pleasantly surprised that they are pretty affordable.

    • Hi Rufat,

I am glad you found the review helpful.

These cookware sets can be used for boating, camping, RVs, and at home. The only pan that is a little bulky for storing the galley is the Concord, but it’s excellent for the outdoor. Prices vary depending on the material quality, not on the user’s intent. Yes, some of them are pretty affordable, which is great:)

I hope it helped. If you need any help, please let me know. I am always happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a lovely day.

  14. I’m just starting reading about boats and sailing. I have never thought that having a good organization is important if you want to cook just like you would at home. Concord SS Comal Frying Bowl Cookware seems to be perfect for me. Be easy to use and the quality of the handle is a big plus for me. Great review. I will bookmark this one for my friends and me.

    • Hi there,

Since boat galleys are very compact, good organization is crucial. The Concord is fantastic cookware set for grilling or camping, but it takes some space in the cupboard as it’s pretty bulky. Just be aware of that.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I’ll be more than happy to help.

Thank you for the comment, and I wish you a great day.

  15. Do you enjoy boat ride with your friends?  What add more pleasure are the deliciously fresh cooked meals in a boat ride.

You don’t ride boats everyday. However you still need cook wares to carry along to cook if you opt for fresh meals during a loner ride, may it be a ride on salt water or fresh water.

This brilliant review covers a guide along with several brands of cook wares to choose from that definitely will help you with your cooking plan on your boat journey to be hassle free and smooth. It will add you an extra smile.

Plan your meals based on the # of meals. What would you all cook? What is the platform you would use? Then you can choose your cook ware from the list. Consider that the this is not the only trip you will be using the pots and pans.

I would go for a clean material like stainless steel pots and pans and the ease of cleaning because water availability may be limited. AVACRAFT SS Saucepan With Glass Lid is a good choice. I am using that in my kitchen for ~7 years. But home is different to boat. you can use them on propane stove, electric heater, the double pouring sprout may be liked by many. It’s not that heavy either.

Stanley Adventure Stay Hot 3QT Camp Crock: Love the hot/ cold operation of this gadget. It comes with a great price as well. Grab your hot meal when you are ready to eat! Try to be careful based on the customer review. In the ideal world, not everything is 100% of what you want.

The tidy arrangement compatibility of your cook ware selection could be big plus to save space space on a limited space. The bag as an accessory would help not to shift the set and making noise.

Thank you for a great review of the cook ware for an enjoyable boat ride.

    • Hi Anusuya,

Thank you for your in-depth comment!

I like to cook light meals that fill me up and are easy to digest, like whole rice and lentils.

Yes, I agree that stainless steel cookware is easier to cook and clean:)

If you have any questions, I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you again for the feedback, and I wish you a lovely day.
