Patagonia Black Hole Duffel Review-The Unbeatable Travel Bag

Looking for a durable bag that can hold a tonne of gear with a lot of carrying options for outdoor activities or any trip? If so, then you should take a look at the Patagonia Black Hole Duffel review. You may be surprised by its great capacity to hold and protect all your gear!

Overview

The Patagonia Black Hole is a fantastic bag that offers plenty of space to store all your gear. This Duffel is durable, lightweight, comfortable to carry, and is super water resistant! It is, without a doubt, a bag you can count on to keep all your equipment safe and dry while doing outdoor activities or traveling!

Features

Material and Design

The exterior of Patagonia is made of 900-denier 100% polyester material with TPU film laminate and coated with DWR, making this bag extremely durable and water resistant. This material is water-repellent, but it does nearly the same job as waterproof material, meaning it will keep all your gear dry even if exposed to water.

Ease of Packing

The Patagonia features a wide D-shaped opening zipper that allows you to pack and unpack easily. There are two well-designed interior mesh pockets located under the bag’s lid to organize small items like iPhones, batteries, etc..Those mesh pockets come in handy to find things with ease, but if you overload them, the top will become too heavy, and will be hard to open it. Addionationaly, there is a zipper pocket on the front of the bag that you can use as well if you need to.

Lashing Options

On each extremity of the Patagonia, there are grab loops to grip the bag comfortably. Plus, it features several useful lash points and four series of flower chains, making it easy to attach to any vehicle or whatever you need. If these features are what you will need the most for your trip, then Patagonia will exceed your expectation. This bag offers more lashing options than many other Duffels out there in the same category.

Carrying Options

This bag can be carried in two different ways, by hand or on your back. If your bag is heavily loaded, then you would want to carry it as a backpack so that you can spread the weight and have a better posture. Otherwise, you can carry it as a traditional bag with the help of the webbing handles placed on the top of the bag.

Portability

One of the best features of the Patagonia is its padded shoulder strap system. Both bags, the Patagonia along with the North Face base camp, can be carried as a backpack which is extremely useful if you need to free up your hand to do something else. These straps can be adjusted to the size you want or removed, allowing you to take them off whenever you feel like it. The bottom of the bag is also well padded, which is great for protecting all your content.

Weight

The Black Hole is extremely light. It is, in fact, one of the lightest Duffel bags that feature removable padded shoulder straps and pockets. The Patagonia is available in several different weights ranging from 1 lbs to 3 lbs depending on the size of the bag.

Color

The Patagonia Black Hole comes in a variety of colors such as black, mango, olive, and lagoon. These colors are available in 45L and 60L. The colors available for the 90L and 120L are Mango, black, and Lagoon.

Who is The Black Hole For?

The Patagonia Black Hole is a sensational bag that can be used for any outdoor activity or travel purpose as well. This bag is extremely weather resistant even though its material is not waterproof. For kayaking and sailing trips or any watersport activity, you’d better off investing in a bag like the Kwik Tek Dry Pak or the OverBoard, which are 100% waterproof. Otherwise, Patagonia will be perfect either for indoor sports activity, camping, traveling, and for everyday use.

Why Should You Buy The Black Hole

This bag is extremely rugged and has plenty of lashing options. It is a great alternative to a suitcase and is also lighter than many other Duffel Bags. Additionally, it features removable padded shoulder straps, making the Hole Black very comfortable to carry and easy to transport. You can expect this bag to serve you for years to come, thanks to its stiff material!

How To Use The Black Hole?

It is quite simple! You just need to fill up the bag with your gear and close the zipper. You can also compress the gear with the help of two strong straps that are placed inside of the bag. As for the backpack straps, if you want to fix them, you just have to insert them through the plastic D rings and attach them to the plastic buckles.

  1. I have always prefered bags to suitcases. The water-resistance factor of the bag makes it even more attractive.
I also like the fact that you can strap it over your shoulders; unlike the coventional bags out there.
I also like the fact that it has a space for gadgets.
For me it’s a must have

  2. Thank you for introducing the Patagonia duffle bag.
Your article is extremely informative and provides all the necessary details any one searching for a bag such as the Patagonia would nee. I like the fact that it is water resistant and ways so little because the weight issue is critical when flying with the limited amount of weight the airlines allow for. So it sounds ideal to carry on a plane.
    thanks for the article
    cheers

Yes, the Patagonia Black Hole is super water resistant and is one of the lightest Duffel bags. It’s definitely a great bag to fly with, and you can even take it with you in the airplane, which you cannot do with all bags!

It is the ideal bag to travel abroad or to enjoy outdoor activities!

  3. This bag is perfect for my dad! His birthday is next month, and he is one of those people that has everything. But, he has been carrying around the same duffle bag with him everywhere, and it is really just on it’s last leg. He lives in Alaska and travels a lot. So the fact that this is rugged is good. He can throw it in his plane and take it with him where ever he might fly. I’m glad I found this!

  4. Hi Daniella,

I have to travel a lot recently from Ireland to the UK. Once in the UK I have travel the full length of it several times in less than a week.

My second last trip I had something very dear to me (my laptop – lol) being carried around on my shoulder in a very flimsy bag indeed.

The straps soon dug into my shoulders, hurting me and pulling me off balance and generally being a nuisance.

Out of fatigue, I put it into one of my family’s bag and, alas, it was stolen.

If I had a bag like this I would of been fine and would not have lost my WHOLE IDENTITY contained on my laptop,

Time to add this item to my cart because I need to bring my laptop with me the whole time when I travel.

Thank you kindly, I definitely found what I was looking for today.

    Regards,

    Philip.

    • Hi Philippe,

Sorry to hear all this, it must have been an unpleasant moment for you!
Yes. I understand. What happened is that your bag was heavily loaded and the shoulder strap was not padded well enough. That is what usually happens with bags. The Patagonia straps are well padded and you may wear it as a backpack as well, which really helps in those cases. You will definitely be able to store your laptop in the Patagonia as it offers so many pocket options
Thank you for the comment and wish you a beautiful day!
