Crewed Catamaran in Greece – Everything You Ever Wanted to Know!

Planning your next sailing trip on a crewed catamaran in Greece? No doubt that it is an experience not to miss out on, especially by boat, since many of these exotic islands are mainly accessible by vessel. But before venturing into these beautiful Greece Coastlines, make sure to prepare your trip correctly for a free hassle journey at Sea!

1. Crewed Catamaran Charter Options

There are two possibilities available for chartering a crewed catamaran.

Option #1

The first option is to rent a cabin charter and share the yacht with other like-minded adventurers. This is usually ideal for couples, singles, or those who desire to enjoy a sailing trip without having to charter the whole boat.

Option #2

The second alternative is, of course, to rent the entire boat. This choice is rather suitable for family, a group of friends, or couples that wish to have more privacy.

2. What does a Crewed Catamaran Offer?

If your wish is to wake up in a different world every day and explore beautiful exotic islands without having to pack your bag each time you head to another region, then without any hesitation that a crewed catamaran is a perfect option for you!

Whether you choose to sail with family or with friends, a catamaran will offer you space, comfort, privacy, and luxury. A crewed cat is more like a five stars hotel floating on the water with a team taking care of all your needs throughout the whole trip. But this is just a small sample of what a catamaran will offer you! Let’s have a look at the other benefits below.

  • The views are fantastic, especially from the cockpit!
  • Seasickness motion is less experienced on a cat than on a monohull since it doesn’t rock and roll as much as a monohull does.
  • Her small draft will allow you to sail in shallow waters. Meaning you can drop anchor near the beach, sail to secluded coves, and if you wish, get away from the crowds easily.
  • The trampoline is a perfect place to relax, particularly in the sunset as well as to take a jump in the water with your children or friends.
  • If privacy on board is a concern for you, then you shouldn’t worry, as the crew quarters are nicely separate from the guest areas.

3. About the Crew

To a better understanding of the team’s role, a crew consists of a skipper, a cook, and a hostess. Each of them will take care of different tasks. For example, the skipper will be in charge of the navigation, the cook of the food and the hostess of serving meals and the daily cleaning chores.

4. Cost of a Crewed Catamaran

Many people believe that crewed yachts are only for the wealthy, well, fortunately, this is not entirely correct. You’ll be happily surprised to know that it is totally possible to charter a yacht without having to spend a fortune.

The cost
Boat rates may vary according to the season, type of charter, destination, etc. For example, a crewed catamaran with four cabins that accommodate eight people included the team for seven days, can range from 4900 Euro in low season and from 9450 Euro in high season for the whole boat and of course, from there can raise according to your requirements. You’ll certainly share the yacht with other companions; automatically the price will be divided by the number of guests unless you are the one who volunteers to pay for the trip:)

What’s include
The cost usually includes: ( food, crew, bed linen, dinghy, snorkeling equipment, beverages). But as mentioned above, the price will depend on many factors. For an exact price, You’ll need to check these details further with you preferred charter company.

5. What Catamaran to Choose?

When you reserve a hotel, the first thing you want to know is if the room is well-equipped and comfortable. Well, it is the same with a boat. Personally, I like to read as much information as I can, and I suppose you would do the same. Here are some of the best-crewed catamarans reviews to help you choose the right boat for your next sailing trip in Greece in the following links.

6. Best Time to Book?

Booking a boat few months in advance will not only enable you to choose the yacht that suits you the best, but you’ll also get excellent deals. Want to wait?…Waiting until the last minute to book your boat will certainly be advantageous, but you may not find the one you have wished for. Personally, I prefer to book well in advance, at least six months, as I like to take my time when it comes to choosing the right boat.

7. Looking for a Good Charter Company?

There are so many charter companies where you can rent a boat for Greece and find a good one isn’t always easy, especially if it’s your first time sailing. To begin with, each company has its own advantages and disadvantages, telling you that a charter company is better than the other wouldn’t be right. The best ways to find a reputable charter company is:

1. check some feedbacks on forums like cruisers, sailnet, TripAdvisor, and many others,
2. Ask someone you know who has already charted a yacht
3. Read on yacht charter companies reviews. It may help you a lot!

Things you Should Know!

1. Most charters will start on a Saturday afternoon at 5 pm and will end on the following Saturday
2. Be aware that most yacht companies will charge extra cost for a one-way charter
3. Try to meet the crew before you start your sailing trip. You’ll have more chance to have the kind of trip you’ve truly wanted.
4. If you were happy with your crew, don’t forget to leave them a tip, usually 5% to 20% of the yacht charter fee is the appropriate amount

My Personal Experience

During our last sailing trip in Greece, more precisely on the Lagoon 620 we had the chance to have an amazing team, this is the reason I couldn’t resist to share my experience with you. Our crew was a friendly couple, Marcos, and Bella. They took their job very seriously and with passion, they knew well the regions and the boat. It was fantastic! Carlos was the captain on board and Bella has prepared delicious meals according to our preferences, brought us refreshing drink into our hand while we were laying on the trampoline and they took us to the most beautiful spots. The crew was always there for us! We even became great friends! It really has exceeded all our expectations!

  2. Wow, this is great information. I have always wanted to try a sailing trip because it is so much more intimate and low key, not to understate the amazing views and open water of the sail but, I was nervous to be honest. I always thought a big cruise ship was my only option, but I don’t like the crazy busyness of that style of travel. I think meeting your crew first is a great tip and the fact it seems like you are getting a much more customised experience. Thanks for the great info!

    • Hi Maria,

Thank you for the kind comment, I really appreciate!

A sailing holiday is totally different from a cruise ship. It is certain that you have more privacy on a yacht charter than on a cruise ship. Also, on a yacht , you have the option to chose the itinerary or activities you wish to. On a cruise ship, you need to stick to their schedule, which is fine for those who like this kind of vacation. I personally prefer a yacht charter because it gives me more freedom and peacefulness.

If it’s possible to meet the crew before the embarkation, then it’s great! It’s always good to know with whom you’ll be sailing for a week:)

Thank you very much for the comment

I wish you an excellent day!
