Overview

The submarine scooter adventure is about diving with unusual equipment. You’ll be watching beautiful schools of tropical fishes while sitting on the edge of a scooter with a bubble helmet on your head for about 20 minutes. You do not need to swim or do anything else, but just exploring the underwater world in the most friendly way!

What to Expect From This Tour

Departure

There are two different departure times. The first tour begins at 9 AM, and the second at 12 AM. You will meet your expert crew at Honolulu’s Keahole Street. It would be safer to arrive half an hour prior the embarkation to get ready. You can either get there by car, or by bus or with private Aviator’s van if you select this option.

On the Boat

After meeting the group, it’s time to get on board a large catamaran that will bring you to the submarine destination. While heading to Oahu’s coast, you will have the chance to explore spectacular islands such as Diamond Head, Koko Crater, Maunalua Bay, and the famous mountain range. You won’t get bored while waiting for your turn to dive with your scooter. The crew provides you a complete snorkel gear so that you can snorkel in the clearest and bluest water in Hawai. Delicious snacks and refreshing drinks will even be more fun for you!

Getting There

Once you arrive at the dive spot, the friendly and knowledgeable crew shows you how to manipulate your scooter and also give some useful information about the safety. That’s it; your turn has arrived! Now you just need to put your wetsuit top on and get ready for your scooter ride!
Five water scooters are going down at one time there is one guide for every two persons underwater that dive with for about 20 minutes.

After the Dive

When the tour underwater is over, you can either suck up the sun on the boat or put your snorkel kit on and continue your snorkeling adventure while other participants drive their scooter. The crew is always there to keep you entertained, whether it is serving drinks, telling stories about the area or putting great music on!

What Experience Do You Need?

You may find this funny, but you don’t need any experience to drive a scooter underwater. A scuba license is not required, and even non-swimmers can do this tour with ease. The only thing you need is to bring your best mood, and you are good to go!

What Are the Ages That Can Participate?

Everyone ranging from 10 to 100-year-old can enjoy doing this tour. It is not unusual to see older people driving a scooter underwater, and they love it! In fact, many of them have left their review on Aviator, you can take a look at what they say about this adventure! Apart from small children under ten years old, all ages are welcome.

Who is This Tour For?

This excursion is truly for everyone, except for people who have health problems or are not comfortable in the water or small children as well. As I’ve mentioned above, there is no need to have experience in the water. Non-swimmer, divers, snorkelers, and swimmers can participate in this fun adventure!

  1. Your first paragraph has a type, you have scooper instead of scooter. I just wanted to let you know 🙂 This looks so fun! I live near the ocean so I love anything to do in the water that is fun. I have not been to Hawaii since I was about 14, and I have been wanting to go back. I guess the only that holds me back is the spendy plane fair. My dad has a place there, so really it is kind of a no brainer that I go. Oh, and is Oahu the big island?

    • Hi Matt,

Thank you for the scooper error, I’ve corrected it:) Yes, this tour is fun, and if you live near the ocean, then you must know what is to be in the water. I also live near the sea, and I am almost every day on the beach or in the water with my family. Oahu is quite big. In fact, it is the third largest island in Hawaii. It is also home to five volcanoes. I think that only three of them are still active. If your father lives there, then you should visit him:)
Thank you for the comment and wish you a lovely day!

  2. I had heard of underwater scooter in the past but was skeptical whether it is right for me. But after reading the post I realised that it can be undertaken by anyone from 10 to 100 years of age. Thanks for opening my eyes and I will surely try it next time whenever I will visit Hawaii.

Keep writing such fantastic reviews and keep your readers enthralled.

    • Hi Alok,

The sea can be scary because you never know what awaits you down there, but I can assure you that the crew is careful and you also have a guide that comes with you in the water. So you don’t need to be skeptical about this tour. It is safe, and it is a fantastic way to explore beautiful fishes and turtles underwater. People of all ages enjoy this trip. You can also stay on the boat or snorkel around if you don’t want to ride the scooter and you will still enjoy all the beautiful sceneries, and the service on the vessel as well.

Thank you for the kind comment and wish you a wonderful day!

  3. That is so cool and unique and I can see how older children would be able to do this. I also appreciate the tips- I will definitely be referencing this. This seems like it would be one of the best ways to experience the beautiful waters of Hawaii with family.

Does this usually sell out? How far in advance should you plan on booking this?

    • Hi there,

Indeed, it is a unique and fun way to explore the underwater world! Everyone can participate, even children.

Yes, this tour is extremely popular because it doesn’t require any experience and effort. You just need to sit on the scooter, and you are good to go. It is safe and fun! You can either plan this tour a week in advance or even a few days before if you are already in Hawaii.I personally like to plan well ahead:)

  4. Wow! I’m so happy I found this! It looks like so much fun and something everyone in our family can do! We’re planning a trip to Hawaii this winter and will surely look this place up! Too bad it’s on the island of Oahu though! But maybe we can plan to stay an extra day just to take this in! Very cool! Thank you!

    • Hi Jacky,

Indeed, it is a tour everyone should do if they spend their vacation in Hawaii! That sounds great. I wish you and your family to have an unforgettable trip! Yes, who knows, maybe on your way back, you’ll have the chance to do the tour:)
Thank you for the comment and wish you a fantastic day!

  5. Hi there,
Many thanks for this great and interesting post. I had never heard of this type of adventure before today, but it sure looks exciting and eventful.
The great thing about this type of entertainment is that we don’t need any prior experience, as you say just show up and get going.
The images and video really show what a wonderful world exists below the surface. Its great to see all these types of sea creatures and how they live in their own private environment, something that we are not overly familiar with.
Thanks again for the great review
    Cheers PB

    • Hi Phil,
      You are very welcome!
Many people think that they need diving experience to do this tour. Not at all! You don’t even have to know how to swim since the scooter is attached with rope to the boat and there is a guide that stays with you during the dive. Many people think like you:) The underwater world is unique and beautiful, this is why diving among all these sea creatures provide so much joy.
Thank you for the kind comment and wish you a wonderful day!
