A trip to the wonderful, sunny Greek coastline offers an exhilarating experience. People enjoy learning how to sail in Greece. You will treasure the wonderful memories you share during this adventure.
Sailing Conditions
Greece benefits from a warm, sunny Mediterranean climate. You can sail in the Greek islands all year long. Conditions tend to be most comfortable between May and October. In fact, the weather sometimes grows hot from late June through early September.
From mid-June through mid-August, a strong wind called “the Meltemi” gusts through the Aegean Sea on the east side of Greece. It blows from the north. It reaches up to 30 knots. The Meltemi does not impact the western Greek Ionian Sea as strongly.
Fees and Ports
There are many excellent ports in Greece. Visitors speak highly of Piraeus, the very busy commercial port of the capital city of Athens. Its name was recently changed to Pireas. It is located southwest of Athens.
Other excellent ports for sailing in Greece include Volos if you plan to sail in the Aegean Sea. Or visit Levkas, Preveza, or Kerkira to sail in the Ionian Sea.
The port of Patrai can also be reached easily from Athens by road. It is an excellent location to use to sail in the Gulf of Corinth and southwestern Greece.
Port fees change sometimes, so always check with your local Greek embassy to determine if any fees apply to the ports you plan to use during your visit.
Tips for Sailing in Greece
Many experts recommend sailing during May or early June. You can check local sailing conditions (Sea forecast-HNMS)
Most visitors sailing in the Greek islands travel with a crew. Crews can provide extra assistance at sea if unexpected weather occurs.
However, if you are a qualified captain, it is also possible to travel that way. To look into safety issues that apply to your individual situation and conditions before setting out, see www.uscgboating.org.
Best Places to Sail
The Ionian Sea in western Greece usually displays gentler sailing conditions than the Aegean Sea in the east. Some beautiful beaches line the western shore of Greece and its nearby islands, including:
the white pebble beach of Myrtos in Kefallinia and the broad, sandy Navagio Beach on the north side of the island of Zakynthos.
If you embark from Pireas or Athens, you may also enjoy exploring the lovely Cyclades Islands in the Aegean Sea at your leisure. Many sparsely populated island communities exist there.
Activities and Entertainment
Sailing, beachcombing, swimming, water skiing, snorkeling, rock climbing, and sightseeing can fill your days. Many visitors, especially, enjoy shopping in Athens and Patrai.
Later, you can dine at marvelous cafes. Cheerful, warm Greek hospitality remains world-famous.
Exploring the ruins of the renowned Acropolis interest history buffs. Delighted visitors also admire its beauty.
The romantic Greek island offers lovely sailing locales. You will relish all the fun experiences you share during your voyage!

Great information for sailing here. I live on the island of Rhodes in Greece and the waters here are mostly quite calm and the weather is quite pleasant for sailing. Now we are in February and the sun is shining.
I would recommend anyone to come here and take advantage of the amazing waters.
Thanks
Chris
