1. Inflatable Kayak

These water toys let you get close up and personal with shallow waters and tighter spaces. Inflatable kayaks are available in price ranges for any budget, and they are easy to store away without taking up precious cargo space.

These kinds of kayaks do not require any extra rigging and are just as sturdy as a traditional kayak, not to mention usually more affordable than the hardback options. Most inflatable kayaks come with everything you need, including oars and a storage bag.

And the seats are customizable since they can inflate to personal plumping preference. A few things to be aware of with inflatable kayaks are they are harder to maneuver in windy and wavy conditions and can take a while to inflate since they have several different compartments to fill.

Easy to clean, dry, and store, inflatable kayaks are a fun water toy that can extend the options and access of your boat.

2. Fish Filet Table

This is one of those things you never knew you were missing until you have it. Fish and bait fillet tables are available in a compact form with maximum working space to help your fishing trip be more efficient without messing up your dock space.

Fillet tables can be found with rod holder mounts to fit right into the rod cup, or as a side mount that slides and clamps to the side of your boat. Why waste time at the fillet station after docking, or once you’ve returned home with your catch?

After re-baiting and casting your reel, you can easily fillet your catch while waiting for the next bite and have your cleaned fish ready to go to the grill once you’re back on land.

3. Towable Tubes

If you own a boat, chances are you already have a towable toy of some kind. Towable tubes are the timeless staple of family fun on a boat. Nowadays, there are all kinds of shapes, sizes, and colors to help your crew stand out.

There are so many options, in fact, it can be overwhelming to decide what you want and what will work best for your family and friends. Some helpful tips: consider who is going to be riding the tube, how many riders you prefer at one time, how much you really want to spend without breaking your boat budget, and always do the research on any towable tube you are considering.

Different tubes require different riding positions, grip options, and maneuverability, so you’ll want to watch any videos you can to help you pick the right towable tube. Better yet, make it a family night and get everyone in on the researching fun to make the decision easier for you.

4. Water Hammocks

Really? Yes!! Times have changed and so have the styles. These water recliners are colorful, classy, comfortable, and have the ultimate feeling of weightlessness. Gone are the days of the inflated rectangle that made you feel like Jack in “Titanic” trying to get onto the door.

The water hammocks of today are accessible and effective, and some even have options to multitask. Sit in them as a chair, lay back like a lounger, or tuck them under your chest as you effortlessly wade around.

Some have armrests, others have netting like a true hammock. There are water hammocks to make everyone happy during your downtime on the water.

5. Inflatable Walkway

You’ve seen them, those floating docks that kids and adults alike are laying on and jumping off of in the middle of the lake. These can be pricey for a water toy, but think of them as real estate- they add square footage beyond your boat to give your friends and family space on the water and even on soft land.

From the boat to the beach, these platforms provide endless opportunities for creative fun. Think sunbathing, picnics, tumbling practice, flips into the water, or a quick game of “don’t touch the lava”…the possibilities are endless. Inflatable walkways are easy and fast to fill and simple to store.

They are a little pricey, but even if you aren’t Bill Gates, an inflatable walkway is still very much within reach to expand on your summer fun!

6. Marine Grill

Growing up with a grill option on my dad’s boat, I still remember my end-of-summer birthday parties on the lake with friends eating freshly grilled hot dogs in the middle of the lake. Let’s face it, the combination of being in the water and out in the sun makes you so hungry even pretzels taste good.

So why not indulge, take a few minutes, and grill up what you really want at the convenience of having a marine grill right where you are. Marine grills hook up to a simple portable propane tank and you can adjust the valves as much or as little as you’re comfortable with.

As far as affordability, marine grills are inexpensive and come in different sizes to fit your needs. As with the filet tables, some marine grills also come with a rod holder attachment so you don’t have to worry about a stable place to set the grill. This is a game changer!

7. Sea Scooter

If you get anything on your boat bucket list this year, make it a sea scooter! Best for oceans and larger bodies of water, sea scooters are the ultimate underwater exploration toy.

Hold onto the handles and the scooter pulls you through the water. Dive down deeper and faster than ever before, or glide close to or on top of the surface and take in the views below and around.

The benefits are that the rider doesn’t get fatigued as quickly as trying to kick and swim around, they have a rechargeable battery and a propeller system. Depending on the scooter, the battery will last anywhere between 60 and 150 hours!

Users will want to keep track of their travels to ensure they don’t get lost or stray too far away from home base, and if diving with a sea scooter, users will need to take their time rising to the surface to avoid decompression sickness. These toys are pricey, but the adventure is endless!

8. Inflatable Beverage Pong

Having fun in the water but still, want to join the beer pong fun? Now you can have the best of both worlds with an inflatable beer pong game! This oversized floating lounge comes with pong balls and has built-in spaces for your favorite party cups.

Some even have a spot in the middle for ice and beverages to keep the game playing going for hours on end. Not into beer?

That’s not a problem, as this game can be played with any beverage for any age or taste preference. You don’t have to stick with the same old water activities anymore. Add this game float to your boat accessory collection and let the games begin!

9. Guitar

Boat radios aren’t unique but they do drain your batteries. Instead, opt for a guitar and enjoy your time on the water with some one-of-a-kind music. It’s okay if you don’t know how to play.

There are a plethora of affordable starter kits on buying sites that come with everything you need to start learning to play. Most kits come with the guitar, a carrying case, picks, strap, and extra strings.

Some will also include a book to teach you how to play, and social media platforms are full of tutorials to make it easy. There’s nothing more relaxing than the smooth sounds of guitar strings, and nothing more fun than your family and friends jumping in and pretending they’re the next Garth Brooks.

10. Inflatable Paddle Board

These things are all the rage! Paddle boards are nothing new, but the inflatable version has made these timeless water toys more accessible than ever! There are benefits to the inflatable versions of these toys.

Good quality inflatable paddles are made with more durable materials than the traditional hard boards, and any holes are easy and affordable to patch. They don’t hurt as much when you fall onto the platform of these paddle boards and let’s be honest, it can take some practice to find your balance.

Being a softer material, inflatable paddle boards allow users to stand on them more comfortably for longer periods of time. They’re lighter to carry, easier to transport and even travel effortlessly.

Depending on the quality of the paddle board you choose and how well it’s taken care of, an inflatable paddle board can last for years to come and provide an endless amount of fun.

  1. Hello, I’m from Germany and I like to go to the sea in Italy in the summer. I just love this place. I have a small boat there and always enjoy going out with the family and enjoying the sun. I think your article is awesome and I will definitely take a closer look at some of the things. However, I still have one question. We have dogs and sometimes they don’t feel so comfortable with waves. Do you have any ideas what to buy to make them comfortable?

    • Hi there,

Yes, Italy is a beautiful place. I love it too:)

Make them wear a life jacket so that they can float on the water and get more confident. Also, playing with your dogs in shallow waters would be a good idea, as you would  with kids.

I hope it helped. Please, let me know if you have more questions. I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment and I wish you a great day.

  2. Great post, very well written and informative! I haven’t made it out to the lake yet this summer, but I’m definitely hoping to soon. The inflatable kayak looks like a lot of fun and I’d definitely like to get one, but I’m really interested in the Sea Scooter. I was expecting it to be way more expensive, so that’s a nice surprise! I am a little concerned about decompression, do you know what depths I can go to without needing to worry about that?

    • Hi there,

This particular scooter can go 30 feet (10m) underwater, but know that it’s not designed for diving. You can use it for shallow snorkeling, but that’s it. There are more powerful scooters if you want to go deep in the water. Then, of course, you’ll have to wear appropriate gear for diving.

I hope it helped. Let me know if you have more questions. I’ll be more than happy to assist.

Thank you for the comment and I wish you a lovely day.

  3. These are indeed fun accessories to have when you are out on the water for a day. I have not seen the inflatable walkway before, but it is ingenious if you don’t want to get wet going from one boat to another, or if you are moored further away and want to get to land.

I love the inflatable kayaks and you mention that they are customizable, since they can inflate to personal plumping preference. So does that mean it can be used as a double kayak to have a child with an adult? Or is there a special 2-person kayak that would be required? Thank you.

    • Hi Line,

Thank you for passing by and for the comment.

It depends on how old the child is. If they are under 5 years old, you can use a 1 -person kayak. If they are over 5 years old, it would be preferable to use a 2-person kayak, but a child should always sit at the front and wear a life jacket, of course:)

I hope it helped, and please, let me know if you have more questions. I am always happy to assist.

  5. Oh man, I think I need to update my wish list! haha!   I didn’t even know a sea scooter existed, but I’m convinced I need one!!

And the Inflatable paddle board is absolutely genius.  When you’re towing a boat to the lake it’s hard to bring things like this in the truck because they take up so much space.  But we have a portable car air compressor we could just blow up when we get there.   Definitely need one of these!

Lastly, I love the water hammocks!  Lake/pool accessories have come a long way since I was a teenager! lol. We used to have those awful blow up ones with the wires in it that never seemed to stay in the shape you bought them as. These water hammocks look so comfy!!

Thanks so much for this article!
